Where to Find the Serial Number

On most Audemars Piguet watches the serial number is stamped or engraved on the caseback. On the Royal Oak "Jumbo" (ref. 15202), it appears between the lugs at 6 o'clock. Modern pieces also show the reference number on the caseback adjacent to the serial. On models with an exhibition (sapphire) caseback, the movement serial may be visible through the caseback — note that the movement serial can differ slightly from the case serial used for dating purposes.

AP Serial Number FAQ

Where is the serial number on an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak?

On most Royal Oak models the serial number is engraved on the caseback. On the "Jumbo" 15202 and earlier references it can also be found between the lugs at 6 o'clock. The movement serial may differ slightly and is visible through the exhibition caseback.

What is the most sought-after Audemars Piguet reference?

The Royal Oak ref. 15202 "Jumbo" Extra-Thin in stainless steel is the most coveted, followed by the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar. Vintage references from the 1970s and 1980s — especially A-series and early B-series serials — command significant premiums.
