Approximate Production Year
—
Results are approximate. JLC has supplied movements to many brands — if your watch has a JLC movement but a different brand name, the serial range may still apply. Production records are not publicly disclosed.
JLC as a Movement Supplier
Jaeger-LeCoultre supplies movements to many luxury brands including Vacheron Constantin, IWC (historically), and others. If your watch has a JLC-based movement, the serial may overlap with independent JLC production pieces. This means a Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, or other grand maison watch with a JLC ebauche may have a serial that falls within the JLC production ranges shown below — and can be approximately dated using this same table.

Key Jaeger-LeCoultre Reference Numbers

Where to Find Your JLC Serial Number
JLC serial placement varies by model era. Here is where to look for each generation.
Modern Wristwatches
The serial is engraved on the caseback (on a plaque or directly engraved). Many modern JLC models feature an exhibition caseback through which the serial is visible on the movement plate without removing the back.
Vintage Models
On vintage JLC wristwatches, the serial is typically found between the lugs at 6 o'clock. It also appears engraved on the movement, visible when the caseback is opened by a watchmaker.
Atmos Clocks
For Atmos clocks, the serial number is engraved on the movement plate, visible through the glass panels. It may also appear on a small plaque on the base or on the underside of the clock body.
Note: JLC also engraves the serial on the movement itself. This is consistent across all eras, making it possible to date any JLC piece even if the external serial is worn or unreadable.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Questions & Answers
Is Jaeger-LeCoultre a top luxury brand?
Yes. JLC is considered one of the Grande Maisons of Swiss horology. The manufacture produces over 180 movements in-house — more than almost any other brand — and has historically supplied movements to Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, and IWC. The depth of JLC's in-house capabilities is matched only by a handful of manufacturers worldwide.
What is the most iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre watch?
The Reverso, introduced in 1931 for polo players who needed a reversible case to protect the crystal, is the most iconic JLC. The rectangular swiveling case is one of the most recognized silhouettes in horology. The Master Control and Polaris (originally the Memovox alarm wristwatch, first released in 1956) are also historically significant collector pieces that command strong auction premiums.
