1. Serial Number Consistency

2. Reference Number Verification

The case reference number identifies the exact model, material, dial, and bezel configuration. Confirm it matches the watch in front of you. Mismatched reference numbers indicate parts-watch construction — a legitimate safety concern and a significant value reduction.

3. Movement Inspection

Ask to see the movement. A reputable seller will permit this without hesitation. Look for the brand signature on the rotor, clean finishing without visible debris or corrosion, and smooth winding action with positive ratcheting feel.

4. Dial Application

Genuine applied indices are individually placed metal pieces — not printed. Under magnification they should stand perpendicular to the dial surface with uniform height. Printed indices or uneven lume are signs of a replaced or counterfeit dial.

5. Case Finishing Transitions

Luxury watches use both brushed and polished surfaces. The transition should be a razor-sharp line. A blurred or rounded transition indicates a counterfeit or over-polished case — both permanently reduce value.
